With 20 members, including industrials or industries, professional national association entities, and a number of Italian university departments, BuildingSMART Italia’s purpose is to coordinate and develop BuildingSMART International’s objectives within the Italian framework.
Institutional Activities
At the institutional level, BuildingSMART Italia's activities demonstrate the great engagement of part of its members, with two main initiatives: the STAND INN research programme, which involves both Italian institutions (at national and regional levels) and building Construction Associations, and the industrial sector through targeted actions on both the general building enterprises and the materials, components and systems production for the building supply chain.
Research Activities
In terms of research activities, BuildingSMART Italia is currently working on major programmes on the application of the IFC standards and the development of digital BIM IFC interoperable models, carried out in partnership with the Politecnico di Milano, the Lombard Chambers of Commerce and the Lombardy Regional Government, with the support of industrial sponsors. At the European level, BuildingSMART Italy and the Politecnico di Milano are also involved in the European Commission research initiative MACE (Metadata for Architectural Contents in Europe).
Education and dissemination
Besides these fields, BuildingSMART Italia is involved in education and dissemination activities, through the organisation of a Master degree on the European Commission EFS funding at the Politecnico di Milano, the participation to a research competition organised by Lombardy Region on the topic “Excellence Promotion for the Industrial Meta-districts of Lombardy”, or the The Italian Construction Technological Platform initiative.
