Founded in August 1996, the BuildingSMART Nordic (formerly named IAI Nordic Chapter) consists of four national groups: Denmark (38 members), Finland (18 members), Norway (55 members) and Sweden (33 members). These national groups are carrying out activities in various domains, individually but also within the BuildingSMART umbrella for projects of common interest. The BuildingSMART Nordic focuses mainly on the implementation of BIM/IFC standards in real projects, through common and national projects.
Norway
Norway’s BIM projects are supported by the whole industry and the government, and focus on IFD-Library, IDM (Information Delivery Manual)-development , experience through real projects, Improved buildingSMART-support in software applications, Certification/Validation, and Training/education. As a consequence, IFC is increasingly being deployed as the standard for all communication in the Norwegian construction Industry.
Finland
As the usage of BIM is growing rapidly in Finland, the national group focuses its activities on developing IFC/BIM education programmes and implementation projects.
Denmark
Denmark is particularly involved in providing state clients with IFC models, according to demands made in the "Digital Construction program": several municipalities and some private clients has or showing interest in adopting the requirements.
Sweden
Sweden is currently developing an information handbook on IFC standards and is involved in a two year ERAbuild project with Finland, using web services and model servers.
