buildingSMART German Speaking Alliance
Based in Berlin’s “House of the German Construction Industry”, buildingSMART German Speaking gathers 78 members including companies, professional associations and universities fom Germany, Austria and Switzerland. A close collaboration with the Association of German Building Industry (Hauptverband der deutschen Bauindustrie) has been formed.
Domain groups' activities
- Structural engineering, where the focus has moved from model specifications to model implementation
- Building services: very active in writing the IFC user guide / handbook for architects and HVAC engineers
- Facility management: with software applications already operational
- Quantity take-off group: work with the BIM tools developers on providing reliable quantities for cost estimation
- BIM User Group: new group established to provide an open and vendor-neutral forum to share knwoledge about the introduction of BIM, the use of open buildingSMART standards, and the reorganisation of processes within offices
The Research Center of Karlsruhe (Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe), author of much used IFC tools, such as the IfcObjectCounter, the IfcStoreyView, and the IfcViewer, are actively supporting BuildingSMART German Speaking’s research and development activities, as well as the IFC certification process. Several public bodies, the Federal Agency for Construction and Urban Planning (BBR), the Bavarian building authority (CAD Stelle Bayern) and the Austrian Ministry of Defense are supportive to the goals set forward in the several domain groups, namely the work on using the buildingSMART standard IFC for Facility Management and energy analysis and certificates.
